About

The Colorado Analytics Program (CAP) helps state agencies make data-driven decisions. Colorado Digital Service (CDS) runs the analytics dashboard at analytics.colorado.gov and its data collection tool.

Through CAP, state agencies get:

  • An analytics tool for public-facing websites
  • Training on tools and reporting
  • Help desk and engineering support

The dashboard shows how people use Colorado state websites. It helps agencies understand visitor needs. It also reports on:

  • Traffic: page views and visits
  • Devices, browsers, and operating systems
  • Popular content
  • Accessibility
  • Readability
  • Quality

We do not collect personal data. We do not store any information that identifies people.

Not every Colorado state website appears in the dashboard.

Definitions

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance checks how credible, usable, and safe a site is.

  • Content quality and freshness (typos, broken links, updates)
  • Ease of use (navigation, page speed, accessibility)
  • Safety (secure links, no personal data collection)

Accessibility

Accessibility removes barriers for people with disabilities. Support for keyboard-only use, screen readers, and other assistive tools improves the experience for everyone. Following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and using WAI-ARIA patterns helps teams build and measure accessible components.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of creating content that shows up for relevant searches. Content quality, helpful links and media, and mobile responsiveness all affect SEO. Technical setup also matters for how search engines crawl and index a site.

Sessions

A session is a group of interactions on your site within a time window. One session can include multiple page views and events. A session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity or at midnight.

Page Views

We record a page view each time a page loads. This can include repeat views of the same page by the same user.

Total Users

Total users is the number of unique users who started a session on your site during a date range.
