Performance

The Colorado Analytics Program (CAP) aims to enable state agencies to make data-driven decisions. Colorado Digital Service (CDS) manages the Colorado analytics dashboard, located at analytics.colorado.gov, and the data collection tool associated with it.

As part of the Colorado Analytics Program, state agencies benefit from:

  • Do all top agency domains (e.g., dmv.state.gov, health.state.gov) have GA tracking?
  • Are subdomains (e.g., jobs.agency.state.gov) tracked separately or rolled up?
  • Are there any public-facing services missing from analytics?
  • Are measurement IDs clearly associated with specific departments or purposes/services?

The Colorado analytics dashboard spotlights how people interact with state government websites. This data helps agency stakeholders understand how constituents interact with their websites. The dashboard also shares information about:

  • Total sessions (last 30 days)
  • Unique users (last 30 days)
  • Pageviews per session
  • Average session duration
  • New vs. returning users
  • Traffic by device type (mobile/desktop)
  • What are the top 10 most visited domains?
  • What are the top 10 most visited pages across all properties?
  • Are there major events or spikes in traffic in the past month/quarter?
  • Do traffic patterns reflect known seasonal programs (e.g., taxes, fire season, elections)?
Engagement
  • Are form submissions being tracked as events or goals?
  • Are file downloads (e.g., PDFs, reports) tracked consistently?
  • Are email link clicks, phone number taps, or chat launches tracked?
  • Is outbound link tracking active (especially for services linking to federal or 3rd-party systems)?
Navigation & Search
  • What percentage of traffic enters through search engines?
  • Are internal site search queries tracked?
  • Are there common failed searches (no results or immediate exits)?
  • Which pages have high exit or bounce rates?
